Artist Haruki Nakamura makes incredible paper magic with his moving gears.
Before you see the sublime art of Nakamura, take a look at the concept of moving paper sculptures, as in this gorgeous project (you can download it here):
This paper model is a moving Hot Air Balloon Festival, an automaton (which plural is automata). It was created by the beautifully talented artist Keisuke Saka for Canon Creative Park, an amazing source of free paper projects.
Now, when we think of these handmade automata, we have our ideas about what possible mechanisms are designed in these objects. We can even feel brave to try one or another project, after all, everything is easier than it seems at first, right?
Well, not in the case of the work of Haruki Nakamura. It is astounding—and maybe hypnotizing. Watch his sculptures in motion:
He is a master of interactivity, and we are not talking about digital media!
As someone who deeply understands interactivity, he is naturally a master of joy and fun as well. Watch his paper toys in action:
Here is something to impress our digitally immersed children, right? Hope so!
If you love it, you can find books and other Nakamura products, as well as books on mechanical paper models / paper automata. This kind of project is never simple, but always rewarding.
